Weekend Getaway to Northern Ireland
Dotted with stunning coastal drives, panoramas, and breathtaking landscape, Northern Ireland is the perfect destination for a road trip. If you are based out of the United Kingdom or Ireland, a weekend getaway to Northern Ireland is something you should consider to break from routine. If not, then plan a combined trip to UK and Ireland. You will be amazed by the stunning countryside this part of the world has to offer. 🙂
Living in Dublin , Northern Ireland is conveniently a few hour’s drives from home. We planned two short trips to cover a few of the major destinations. The first trip was in October and the second one was in February. If you had a choice, we recommend traveling in summer as winters in Northern Ireland are cold, windy, and rainy. However having said that, every now and then you get lucky with one beautiful sunny day.
Just like that, we crossed the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. There were no check posts or signs and before we knew we were driving in miles per hour instead of kilometers per hour. Both times, we decided to take our trip slow by just hitting 2-3 major spots and spend our time there. And both these times we got just one good day to explore and we had to return early due to storm or rain on the other day. You can still cover a lot in one day or a weekend though. Some of the places of interest are Giant’s Causeway, Carrick-a-rede, the dark hedges, Causeway coastal drive, Belfast, and the titanic museum in Belfast.

One advantage of winter is that you seemed to have the Giant’s Causeway to yourselves! It was a lot busier when we visited last summer.

We visited at 8 am in the freezing weather to avoid crowds but it was well worth it!!!😊

What a great video. I am working on an itinerary for some friends for Northern Ireland. What would you recommend in Belfast? I was at the Giants Causeway last year and think it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. So glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing.

Hi there.. Thanks for stopping by. Definitely go to Titanic Museum, some Irish pubs and if you have time, do the black taxi tours in Belfast. If you are driving outside the city, check our blog for more suggestions – https://sendingpostcardshome.com/2018/03/24/the-drive-to-giants-causeway-beyond/
