When to Visit
Parts of Holland is transformed into this magical carpet of vivid colors from mid-March to mid-May. No one knows the exact dates the tulips would bloom each year because it depends on the weather condition. However, the best way to plan your trip would be to base your travel between the opening dates of Keukenhof garden. Last year (2017), we planned our trip in mid-April and had the absolute pleasure of witnessing those delicate flowers in full bloom. What a delight!

Best Place to see Tulips
Keukenhof Gardens – Amsterdam
Visiting Keukenhof Gardens is a must, to get into the spirit of the Tulip Festival. Every year there are millions of bulbs in bloom and it does wonders to your sense. It’s like a perfect family day out as there are various events to keep you occupied – both kids and adults. You will be amazed by the variety of flowers that are displayed in the garden.
It’s easy to get to the Keukenhof. Buy a combination ticket – train + bus + entrance and you are good to go. If you have an Amsterdam Region travel ticket, you can use that for travel to Keukenhof and only buy the entrance ticket to the garden. However, remember to book your Keukenhof entrance ticket online as the ticketing line can get long. You can find more information on their official site and plan your travel based on that.

Exploring the tulip fields on a cycle
If you ask us, this is the best way to explore the beautiful tulip fields. It’s easy to get going on this. Just outside Keukenhof, there is a bike rental shop where you can rent a bike for 10 euros per person and keep it for the entire day. With the bike, they will also give you a map with 3 loops that you could cover. Based on the amount of time you have in hand, you can choose between the loops or ride randomly. The Tulip fields are just so beautiful! Trust us, you have will have the time of your life.

Road trip to Flevoland and Noordoostpolder
If you have the convenience of a car, you could visit Flevoland which is Holland’s biggest tulip growing region. Flevoland is about an hour’s drive from Amsterdam and fields can be found in the East and South Flevoland and Noordoostpolder (which is another 20 minutes drive from Flevoland). Every year, during the Tulip season there is a “Flower-bulb route” covering over 100km and nearly 2500 acres of flowering fields. You can find trains to Noordoostpolder, however, this region is named as ‘world’s ultimate road trip’ and should be experienced in the car!
